Sitting in a Circle

A faux group therapy session for small audiences of about 40 people.

Premiere:

Sitting in a Circle was a faux group therapy session for small audiences of about 40 people. The group therapy session aimed to help people process and express grief through a series of workshops like: a workshop in how to cry. and a mask making workshop in how to express your sad face. The piece concluded that it’s probably best to bury your feelings way down, perhaps with marshmallows, and hide your true self from the world.

Created by Erika Chong Shuch (director, choreographer)
Production Design: Allen Willner
Created in collaboration with the performers: Rio Anderson, Jennifer Chien, Rebecca Frank, Peter Griggs, Rowena Richie & Travis Rowland

Presented by Intersection for the Arts and Erika Chong Shuch Performance Project

Sitting In A Circle provokes an array of emotions and sustains a cathartic release reminiscent of the current Occupy movement. We shall continue to see how Shuch converses about time and place, ultimately exposing us to our own emotional experiences.
